November TBR

Ok, let's take a quick look at the To Be Read pile for November.

November is series marathoning month, and I've got quite a few that I've been looking forward to getting through. I haven't marathoned a series in quite some time and I can remember being irritated by sequels taking time to explain the occurrences in a first book  I'm reading, but lately I've felt like I've needed some refresher since I get so busy plotlines fly out of my head. Book marathoning is reading multiple books in a series, or an entire series, back to back. It is great to immerse the reader in the world and stay in touch with the series. I'm excited to marathon series again since it has been awhile, and hopefully enjoy the series more.

Now that you've gotten a quick refresher on the book marathoning, let's get into the series.

Series No. 1- Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Technically, this is a children's series. But it is an extraordinarily popular one that many have come to love and cherish, and the companion series entitled Heroes of Olympus has gained renown as well. Upon hearing I've never read this, all of my fellow bookworm friends emphatically pleaded (read: demanded for my own good) that I pick up this series. And so I have the entire series in paperback ready to go and get read as soon as November comes around. The books themselves are short enough that I'm expecting it to only take a half a week to a week to read through them, especially considering I've heard they are action packed and most people cannot put them down. I'm definitely excited!

Series no.2 - A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we have A Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin. This high fantasy adult series is also widely known for its HBO television show counterpart, A Game of Thrones. The show takes its title from the series's first book, and each tome within this series is quite a long read. The entire series is as of yet unpublished, I think with 2 more books to come. Since each novel is a lengthy piece, I'm only planning to undertake A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings. Considering the length of these novels and the multiple character narration, I'm expecting to be immersed in this fantastical world and the lives of its inhabitants. As a disclaimer, this is a mature adult series.

Series no. 3- The Precious Stone Trilogy by Kerstin Gier 

This YA series has recently been popping up on the Booktube scene, however I've actually had the first book, Ruby Red, for quite awhile. I picked up Ruby Red because I noticed it on the shelf and even the spine looked pretty. And look at these covers! Gorgeous! I read Ruby Red and thought it was alright, but I set the book aside since, at that time, Sapphire Blue wasn't due out for a year or more and I had other things to read. Then, I heard people mentioning it again and my curiosity was piqued. People were raving about this series and I got excited and when I saw Emerald Green at the bookstore a few weeks back, I couldn't pass the opportunity up and I got Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green. I'm going to reread Ruby Red and then read the other two as well. Also, I could have sworn I'd gotten this book in 2010 at the earliest but the publishing date is 2011. Considering this is a time travel series.....Anyways, enjoy the beautiful covers and keep in mind the paperbacks look completely different. So if you want the beautiful design, keep in mind you'll need to spring for the hardcover.

Series No. 4- Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead

I'm not sure if I'm going to get through all those series and still have time for more, but if I do I plan on picking up the Bloodlines series. This is a companion series to Vampire Academy, and focuses on characters that frankly I think I'll enjoy more. I read Vampire Academy and thought it was a decent series but nothing that ever grabbed my attention too much, especially in the first books where I would read through waiting for some major plot twist only to finish the book with not much happening. It was an enjoyable enough read regardless, and I'm excited to pick up the Bloodlines series. I'm including the blurb for Vampire Academy to ensure that no spoilers are given instead of the Bloodlines synopsis. I only have the first book in this series but I can easily pick up Indigo Spell and Golden Lily if they're in paperback (yes, I am the sort who likes all the series to be either all paperback or all hardback).

Series No. 5- Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

I adored the first book in this series and recommended it to all of my friends. Crown of Midnight, the sequel, released back in August and I eagerly went to retrieve and copy and sat down to read. *Warning: quick tangent ahead!* However, when I sat down to read, I found myself totally thrown by all of the characters and happenings within the novel. I can recall being irritated when I would marathon series and the sequels spent the first twenty pages recapping the book before. Crown of Midnight certainly didn't do that- the beginning of the book launches straight into the action! While I definitely appreciated that, because it meant the book was jam packed and not twenty pages of a summary, I read Throne of Glass the first day it had come out, which was quite awhile ago. That being said, I out Crown of Midnight to the side and decided that I would read it directly after a reread of Throne of Glass so I could reacquaint myself with the world and characters. I love Sarah J. Maas's writing and the series so I am hoping to get to this in November and if not, it will definitely  be read in December!

November certainly will be a jam packed month. 5 Percy Jackson + 2 A Song of Ice and Fire + 3 Precious Stone is already 10 books, with the additional possibility of 3 of the Bloodlines series and 2 of the Throne of Glass series. I'm excited to see where this month will go literary wise, and I will keep you guys posted.
