January 2014 TBR

Happy New Year! I hope that this new year is wonderful for you all, and I know that reading wise there are already so many awesome books coming out that I can't wait to read. However, January is going to be a little bit crazy for a reading month. Firstly, I'm going to be participating in a Read-A-Thon that I'll be telling you about later on this month, and I've also got a mini themed TBR as well as some books coming out this month that I just have to read. So, let's talk about a stack of books I'll hopefully be getting to in this first month of 2014.

Firstly, let's talk themed TBRs. I know I've mentioned this a few times in Wrap Ups in the past, but I've been thinking more about a themed TBR lately and how that will work out. For one thing, after my reading slump back in December, I started to reevaulate the idea. Forcing myself to stick with a certain type of book for the entire month might not work out as well as I hoped, and I want to enjoy what I'm reading. Also, I picked themes I really want to read, but a lot of those don't necessarily include books I already have. So that's a lot to buy. Considering all this, I've come to a compromise. I'm going to have themed TBRs, yes, but they're only going to be a few books in the TBR, like 2 or 4 or something like that. That way, I can have a theme going, but still be freed up to read whatever I'd like.
So, after that lengthy explanation, let's talk about the themed TBR for January. This TBR is starting off the new year with debuts! I have three currently in mind for the month:

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1)
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi - I've heard so much about this book. A lot of people really have enjoyed it, so I picked it up even though there's not much description given on the back of the book. I'm excited to see what it's all about.

The Near Witch (The Near Witch, #1)
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab - I want to read The Archived by her, but I saw this book awhile ago and thought it might be a good historical fiction type read, so I picked it up. Then I realized it was her debut, and so I thought it would be good to include it here.

Reboot (Reboot, #1)
Reboot by Amy Tintera - I'm a little bit behind on reading this book. As in, everyone was raving about it last year. But, I honestly wasn't too interested in the idea of it when this book first came out. I saw it again recently, picked it up, and found myself much more intrigued by the world. So, I'll be reading this soon as well.

Those are all the themed debuts for the TBR. Now, the Read-A-Thon is over at A Backwards Story, and I've already got a post coming up closer to the Read-A-Thon with more about it. The basics is that I'll be reading Jodi Meadows's Newsoul trilogy and novella at the end of this month and possibly into the beginning of next. So, that series includes...

Incarnate (Newsoul, #1)Incarnate by Jodi Meadows, book no. 1
Asunder (Newsoul, #2)Asunder by Jodi Meadows, book no. 2
Phoenix Overture (Newsoul, #2.5)Phoenix Overture by Jodi Meadows, novella
Infinite (Newsoul, #3)Infinite by Jodi Meadows, book no. 3

This is a series I've been thinking about reading for quite some time and so I'm super excited to finally be doing it! Also, can we just appreciate these covers? Gorgeous! I can't wait to read these.

Now, these last books are releasing in January, and some of them I have been waiting over a year to read, and some of them I'm still very excited for. I'll be starting a series about books I'm looking forward to that are releasing in a particular month, so here are a few that I'm planning on reading.

Unhinged (Splintered, #2)
Unhinged by A.G. Howard - Finally!!!! This book, this very long awaited for book, comes out January 7, 2014. I have been hoping and waiting, and squealing when Morpheus's cover came out, and I read The Moth in the Mirror in December and that made me want to read it even more, but the time. has. come. UNHINGED!!! So yes, this is taking top priority in my TBR!

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine, #2)
Hollow City by Ransom Riggs - Hooray, the sequel to Miss Peregrine's is coming! I can't wait to read another of Ransom Riggs's books- the last one was fantastically done, with every picture adding to an already incredible story.

So, those are quite a few books, but there are plenty of wonderful options. I'm really excited for this new year, and I've got some wonderful books to start it off with! What's on your TBR?

From a paper world,
V

  2. I might be reading the Near Witch as well if I have time this month! I have only read the first book to the Incarnate series, but I desperately want the next one. I really want to read Splintered because I have heard nothing but good things about it!

  3. Yay! Let me know if you read it; we can talk about it then :) And if you want to read them all with a bunch of people, the link to the page is in the sidebar as a button. Splintered was my favorite 2013 read, I posted a review of it today. Thanks for stopping by!
