These authors are put in no particular author, I really just enjoyed them all, so they're just randomly put into a list of 10.
no. 10 - Victoria Scott, the Dante Walker series
I love the Dante Walker series. Victoria Scott threw every YA cliche out the window and wrote a really awesome series with a hilarious and awesome male protagonist, a female lead who's not described as being perfect or beautiful without her knowing. These characters are lifelike, they're funny, and they've got a heck of a lot to do in their series so check these books out.
no. 9 - Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson series
I read Percy Jackson this year and was introduced to Rick Riordan's Greek mythology infused world. It's epic, and it spans several series, so I would recommend Percy Jackson, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading Heroes of Olympus sometime.
no. 8 - Maria V. Snyder, the Study series
I read the Poison Study series this year and fell in love! There are some amazing characters, with Yelena, Valek, Ari, Janco, just everyone in general made an awesome cast. And news! I have wonderful, wonderful news! Maria V. Snyder is expanding the Study series! She is creating 3 more books, and the first is releasing in 2014! I loved the Study series, and I can't wait to see what the second story arc is since the first was spectacuarly done!
no. 7 - Aimee Agresti, the Gilded Wings series
Aimee Agresti created a really unique supernatural world for the Gilded Wings series. This idea that she centered her books around is something I hadn't seen before, and she presents it really well in the Gilded Wings series. I'm really glad I checked out such a unique series this year!
no. 6 - John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
I finally read TFiOS this year. Wow, what a world to read, and how much it affected me in only one book! This is really something special here. In all honesty, while reading this I would have to set the book down and just pause in awe of some of the lines written. It's something beautiful. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with this world.
no. 5 - Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
If anyone could create an amazing, noteworthy, beautiful world, it's Erin Morgenstern. The Night Circus was fantastic. She wrote such life into the setting and characters that it felt like something that had actually happened, with people that came to life.

I think A.G. Howard's books are featured almost weekly on this blog. Guessed that it's my favorite book yet? In all honesty, though, this is an awesome book. A.G. writes beautifully, and it made her already amazing plot and characters even better.
This book was completely unexpected for me. I thought it would be a creepy, somewhat interesting book. Instead, I found a fantastic world beautifully complemented with the photos interspersed throughout.
I haven't read a book that sucker punched me in the gut at its ending (that I certainly did not see coming, by the by!) and it was really well written. I really loved Ruby's character, and she stood out as a strong but not invincible narrator. She felt real, and the rest of the characters were also really great in bringing the story to life. I have plans to read the novella In Time and the sequel Never Fade shortly!
This is a really refreshing YA read, and I haven't heard many people talk about it. I know Sunny's heard of it because I gushed about it to her for about two weeks straight after I finished it. Initially it really intrigued me- superhero YA. It's so much more than a really interesting label, and I would definitely recommend you pick this up and the sequel, Burn Bright, comes out in 2014!
So there are some awesome authors whose books I discovered this year. How about you? Any new ones or are some of these on your list?
From a paper world,

ReplyDeleteI know I'm so excited! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI adore Rick Riordan's mythology! So glad you enjoy him! Maria Snyder is local...I still need to read the Poison Study series, but like her other books! I still need to read ILLUMINATE, too. John Green, yay! I'm reading through him, too. I love love love love LOVE Erin Morgenstern and THE NIGHT CIRCUS. I will insta-buy her next book. I don't care if it's re-writing the dictionary! AG Howard! She has made everyone's lists this year! I'm so happy for her!!! I'm also happy that Alexandra Bracken has made many lists and gotten so popular. Her debut was way too overlooked! Oh, and I meant to read DARK STAR!!! Didn't have time!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a lot of feedback on the list! Rick Riordan did Greek mythology really well, I appreciated that a lot. And I really enjoyed the Poison Study series, I'm so glad there are more books coming out for it. Illuminate was good too, and yay for John Green! I've only read The Fault in Our Stars, I'll probably read Looking for Alaska next. The Night Circus was such an incredible world, she did an excellent job on it! And I can't go more than a blog post or two without mentioning her books :) Can't wait to read Never Fade, the Darkest Minds was wonderful, and I would suggest Dark Star it's a good book! Thanks for stopping by and for all the book thoughts!!
