Top 10 of 2013 - Top Ten Books I'm Looking Forward to in 2014

Welcome back to Paper Worlds and Swirls of Ink. It is the last day of Top 10 of 2013. This week has been so much fun; looking back at all of the wonderful books I've been able to read this year. Today's post is a little different from the others this week: it's looking ahead at books I'm excited for in the next year! Let's talk about some of the awesome books that are coming out next year!
Since I'm doing quite a few posts about books I'm looking forward to in 2014, and most of those lists are either entirely 2014 debuts or sequels, this list is going to be a list of 5 sequels I'm excited for and 5 debuts. Without further ado, here we are. These are in order, but there's a top debut I'm looking forward to, and a top sequel.

Top 5 Debuts I'm Looking Forward to in 2014

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)no. 5 - Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
I got a sneak peek of this book, and I am a Wizard of Oz fan, so I'm definitely interested in this spin of the tale. Also, there's already a 126 page novella out as a prequel to this book- that's practically its own novel!

Feather Boundno. 4 - Feather Bound by Sarah Raughley
This book has a really dark, mysterious synopsis. The mention of 'the truth behind Cinderella' really made me curious. I mean, is it something like a contemporary fairy tale retelling? I don't even know, but I can't wait to find out.

Midnight Thief (Midnight Thief, #1)no. 3 - Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne
Poison Dance, the prequel novella, was really good, and the synopsis of this book grabbed my attention almost immediately. I've noticed several 2014 debuts have prequels out now, which I really appreciate, and I think that this is going to be a great book!

Side Effects May Varyno. 2 - Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy
This contemporary sounds completely different. I mean, how could someone deal with thinking they were going to die, doing everything they wanted to, and then finding out they'd live? I am really excited to meet Alice, and how she deals with this crazy life of hers.

Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1)no. 1 - Stolen Songbird by Danielle Jensen
I love the idea of this story. It sounds like a really unique high fantasy, and the whole troll mythology reminds me of Amanda Hocking's Trylle trilogy, which is a series that I loved.

Top 5 Sequels I'm Looking Forward to in 2014

no. 5 - Poison Study no. 4 by Maria V. Snyder
There's not much detail about this book at all yet, but oh my gosh there are going to be 3 more Poison Study books! The Poison Study trilogy was one of my favorite series I read this year: these books are really something special. And now there are 3 more books to release, starting in 2014? This is awesome news! Unfortunately, there's no cover available yet.

The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #3)no. 4 - The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
After The Evolution of Mara Dyer really brought everything from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer together- and then had such an explosive ending- I can't wait for this. Mara has a lot to deal with, but she's been a really strong character!

Ignite Me (Shatter Me, #3)no. 3 - Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
I'm sad to see the Shatter Me series end, but I have so many questions. Also, I really love these characters, especially Warner, so I can't wait to read more of everyone, and see how this trilogy is completed.

Unhinged (Splintered, #2)no. 2 - Unhinged by A.G. Howard
If you've seen my other lists for this week, Splintered has appeared on all of them, and been in the no. 1 for most. So I'm incredibly excited for this sequel, especially since Morpheus, my favorite character, is on the cover! So, the sprites are just going to have to bring me my waiting hat, but not for long because this book is released January 7, 2014!

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)no. 1 - City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
My number one book I'm looking forward to next year is City of Heavenly Fire. The Mortal Instruments has been one of my favorite series for awhile; I remember waiting for City of Fallen Angels, and reading The Infernal Devices shortly after Clockwork Angel came out. Between the two, The Mortal Instruments was always my favorite series. I'm sad to see it end, and although there are many Shadowhunter series to come, The Mortal Instruments and its characters will always have a special place dear to me.

There is the finale of the Top 10 of 2013. This was a lot of fun, and if you've been reading along or participating, let me know what your favorite day was. A huge thank you to the people who organized this! I found out about it over on Fiktshun, but there were several blogs involved, and you guys did a fantastic job! I really enjoyed doing this, and hope 2014 is full of great books!
